Hey Guys,

I didn't manage to get a physcomp kit or arduino board at the bookstore
this afternoon. They were kind enough to give me the list of things in
the kit. I am going to go ahead and put out an order through jameco and
sparkfun for everything. Does anyone else want to get in on this? Let
me know.

I took it last year and can tell you all about the first through last

pretty interesting stuff, pretty good teacher, but all in all a waste of
time. I'm open to disagreement here because I know some people enjoyed
it, but in the end I saw it as the exact thing to avoid, expressed by
Michael Ang earlier today on the list- a lot of small projects and not
very many fully thought out resume building projects.

Soft foam rubber? or hard styrofoam.

there is something called an electric knife which just heats up and
melts through it but I don't know where you could get one.

I did some serious foam-rubber sculpting for a mask I made this summer.
The best solution was just to use a large box cutter with a long blade
and replace the blade FREQUENTLY. a gentle sawing motion is very effective.

phenomenology of sound to interventions into the world of consumer

I was in the same situation last Spring, and it sucked.

It's so frustrating to be really excited about learning something at
ITP -- and then be stuck doing something way less interesting for
work all day.

The expense of the program alone should convince you to give it as
much of your attention as possible. And bear in mind that the social
part of ITP is a huge and valuable part of the experience. Let loans
get you through most of the costs. (And then expect to live in a mud
hut somewhere off Jersey for a few years after graduation while you
pay back.)

For the benefit of first years,
(since as far as i can tell it hasn't been explained yet in this thread)

TNO is an acronym for Thursday Night Out

It is a night for ITP folks to relax and have fun at a different
nightlife establishment each week. The aforementioned URL
(www.itp.nyu.edu/thursday) is the place to find out where a given
week's TNO is and what the drink specials are. It's usually a Flash or
Quicktime thing, but Tikva's jpg is fine too. :)

Also, the first TNO of the year is special because that's the one
where the second years drug the first years and then steal their
kidneys to sell off for student loan repayment money.

See you there!
Andy
